Is this service right for you?

Who a travel consultation is for

  • Anyone travelling abroad who wants personalised vaccination and health advice
  • Travellers booking 6 to 8 weeks or more before departure, giving time for vaccines to take effect and, where needed, multiple doses
  • Anyone unsure which vaccines or malaria tablets suit their itinerary

When you may need a different or extra assessment

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding travellers should mention this when booking, as some vaccines need individual clinical review
  • Certain medical conditions, a weakened immune system, or regular medication may affect which vaccines are suitable, the pharmacist will assess this with you
  • Travelling within the next 1 to 2 weeks may limit which vaccines can still be effective in time, call us and we will advise on the best option
  • Children and infants may need a different pathway, please ask when booking

How a travel consultation works

1

Book a consultation

Book online or call us. We recommend booking 6 to 8 weeks before you travel, as some vaccines need time to work or are given as a course.

2

Discuss your itinerary

You are seen privately. The travel health advisor reviews your destination, trip length, activities and medical history to work out what you need.

3

Get vaccinated or advised

Where a vaccine is suitable and available, it can be given during your visit. You will also get tailored advice on malaria prevention and general travel health.

Questions people usually ask

Is the Travel Clinic free on the NHS?
No. The travel consultation and most travel vaccines are a private, paid service. Some individual vaccines, such as typhoid or hepatitis A, may be available free on the NHS depending on your personal circumstances, the pharmacist can tell you what applies to you.
How far in advance should I book?
Ideally 6 to 8 weeks before you travel. Some vaccines are given as a course of more than one dose, or take time to give full protection, so booking early gives the best cover. If you are travelling sooner, contact us and we will advise on what is still possible.
Will you definitely have the vaccine I need in stock?
We offer a wide range of travel vaccinations, but availability can vary and some vaccines need to be ordered in. Suitability is also assessed individually. Book a consultation and the pharmacist will confirm what is available and appropriate for your trip.
Can anyone use the Travel Clinic?
Most adult travellers can. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a medical condition, a weakened immune system, are travelling with young children, or are travelling at very short notice, the pharmacist will assess your individual situation before recommending anything.
Do I need an appointment?
Yes, the travel consultation is by appointment so the advisor has time to go through your itinerary and health history properly. Book online for a set time, or call us.
